Snapdragon 8 Elite emulates AAA-level games: what’s the catch?

Snapdragon 8 Elite emulates AAA-level games: what’s the catch?

The Snapdragon 8 Elite processor was first spotted emulating complex AAA games such as Jedi: Fallen Order and Assassin’s Creed: Rogue, delivering up to 50 and 60 FPS. That’s a serious achievement considering the resource-intensive nature of emulating x86 programs on ARM devices. Some bloggers and Realme VP Chase Xu have already demonstrated the gaming power of the Realme GT7 Pro, indicating the return of high-end compact gaming devices.

A powerful processor for handheld gaming

Gaming emulation on the Snapdragon 8 Elite raises a lot of questions. Chase Xu’s video confirms it: the gamer experience on handheld devices is on the verge of a technological breakthrough. The demo shows the use of a new emulator called GameFusion, rumored to be created by GameSir. This closed-source software, still in the testing phase, differs from popular open-source x86/ARM translators. Its methods of operation remain a mystery, but it is clearly capable of impressing.

Perspectives on AAA game emulation

The main success factors here are efficiency and optimization. Running high-polygon games on the Snapdragon 8 Elite requires a lot of resources, and in order to maintain decent runtime, the emulator needs to use energy extremely efficiently. In addition to battery consumption, smartphones are limited by their thermal characteristics: in compact devices, long load times trigger trottling, which slows down performance. GameFusion may be using best practices such as upscaling or frame generation.

In addition, the Snapdragon 8 Elite could benefit from Linux support, which would be a novelty for Android device chips. If the emulator succeeds, it will no doubt become popular among mobile gamers upon official release.
