Rumors of a new Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 chip with a massive performance boost have surfaced online

Although Qualcomm only recently released its flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, rumors are already surfacing about its successor, the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, which promises a significant performance boost. According to insider Jukanlosreve, the new chip could reach around 4,000 points in the Geekbench 6 single-core test, which is 25 percent more than the 8 Elite, which scores around 3,200 points.

MediaTek’s upcoming Dimensity 9500 is also rumored to perform similarly in single-core benchmarks, suggesting growing competition in the processor market. However, Qualcomm is known to strive for a balance between speed and thermal management. The current version 8 Elite at 4.32GHz has a tendency to overheat. Therefore, one of the main challenges for the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 will be to improve thermal management without sacrificing performance.

Manufacturing: bet on TSMC and improved N3P process

According to the latest leaks, TSMC will remain the sole manufacturer of Qualcomm’s new flagship, although it was initially reported that Samsung’s facilities would also be involved. In producing the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, TSMC will use the N3P process, which is more energy efficient and better performing than the N3 used in the Snapdragon 8 Elite. Perhaps this decision will reduce overheating of the new chip while increasing performance.
