Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, a power-efficient chip with a focus on AI and gaming

Qualcomm has announced the new Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, which will be the top chip for premium smartphones. The internal designation of the model is SM8735, and it is being manufactured using TSMC’s 4nm N4P process. Unlike the flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite, this one uses Kryo architecture rather than Oryon.
Performance: 31% increase with lower power consumption
The processor configuration includes 1 Cortex-X4 core (up to 3.2 GHz), 3 Cortex-A720 cores (3.0 GHz), 2 Cortex-A720 cores (2.8 GHz) and another 2 Cortex-A720 cores (2.0 GHz). According to Qualcomm, the chip is 31% faster than last year’s Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, while consuming 39% less power.

Graphics: Adreno 825 and ray tracing
The Adreno 825 graphics gas pedal delivers 49% more performance compared to its predecessor. The chip supports ray tracing on-device and Snapdragon Elite Gaming gaming technologies, including Game Super Resolution 2.0 and Adreno Image Motion Engine 2.0.
AI and camera: smarter and more powerful
The updated Hexagon NPU accelerates processing of AI tasks by 44%, and the 18-bit triple ISP supports cameras up to 320 MP and video recording 4K 60fps HDR.

Communication and memory: 5G, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0
The chip features a Snapdragon X75 5G modem with a maximum download speed of 4.2Gbps, but only supports the sub-6GHz band, no mmWave. Support for Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, UFS 4.0, LPDDR5X RAM, and USB 3.1 Gen 2 is also claimed.
Another new feature is Qualcomm XPAN (Extended Personal Area Network), which uses Wi-Fi for audio transmission. This technology is already supported by the Xiaomi Buds 5 Pro.

Which smartphones will get Snapdragon 8s Gen 4
The first device on the new chip will be the iQOO Z10 Turbo, which will be released later this month. Flagships from Xiaomi, Oppo, Meizu and other brands will also get it soon.
