Postgres Professional invests RUB 1.5 bln in the creation of Postgres Pro Machine

Russian company Postgres Professional, recognized as the largest DBMS developer according to the Center for Strategic Research (CSR) for 2023, has announced the launch of a large-scale project: investments in the amount of over 1.5 billion rubles will be directed to the development and launch of Postgres Pro Machine – a new hardware and software platform for databases. The technical partner is domestic IT equipment manufacturer Delta Computers.
Russia’s first universal «database machine»
Postgres Pro Machine will be the first Russian MBD (database machine) capable of simultaneously supporting four different DBMS scenarios within a single architecture:
- highly loaded transactional databases,
- analytical data processing,
- management of multiple medium-sized databases,
- horizontal scaling with sharding.
The key advantage of the platform is a single management interface all types of DBMSs without having to switch between disparate solutions.
“Today Russian companies have to use several technological stacks for working with databases at once: virtual DBMS, systems without virtualization, analytical engines, large databases from 150 TB and more,” explains Ivan Panchenko, Deputy General Director of Postgres Professional. – Postgres Pro Machine will combine all these scenarios in one solution and allow customers to reduce costs – both financial and human resources.
Performance is 30% higher through hardware-software integration
In contrast to traditional solutions where software is «placed on top» of standard hardware, Postgres Pro Machine is designed as a complete system: the DBMS and hardware platform are designed in parallel, taking into account the specifics of each other. This provides performance gains of more than 30% compared to classic architectures.

This level of efficiency is not possible with a standard integration approach – it was only made possible by deeply reworking the internal DBMS architecture and creating a proprietary hardware base.
Delta Computers
The hardware partner for the project was Delta Computers – a Russian IT equipment developer with its own R&D-center. The company has been operating since 2016 and supplies solutions for major enterprises from the energy, transportation, retail, finance and other industries.
When to expect the launch
The Postgres Pro Machine is now in its final testing phase. The first pilot implementations are scheduled for the second half of 2025. More information about the platform can be found on the project’s official website.
A live demonstration of the device and its capabilities will be available at the CIPR conference in Nizhny Novgorod from June 2-5, 2025.
