MediaTek unveiled Dimensity 8250 processor for mid-budget smartphones

The new model of MediaTek’s mobile platform — Dimensity 8250, is a mid-range chip manufactured using 4nm process technology. The company revealed the capabilities of the new processor and the price range of the smartphones that will be released based on it.

Dimensity 8250 features a “1+3+4” layout that includes an ARM Cortex-A78 (3.1 GHz) main core, three similar cores clocked at 3 GHz and four Cortex-A55 (2.0 GHz) cores. The amount of L3 cache memory is 4 MB. The platform supports LPDDR5-6400 Mbps RAM and UFS 3.1 drives. The ARM Mali-G610 MC6 is used for multimedia capabilities, and for AI computing — the MediaTek APU 580 chip.

Maximum screen specs include a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels at 120Hz refresh rate or 1080p @ 180Hz. The integrated 14-bit image processing chip (ISP) supports a single 320-megapixel camera sensor or three 32MP each. Maximum video resolution is — 4K at 60 fps. Additional features include — electronic camera stabilization, HDR support and video recording with background blur effect.

Also support for Wi-Fi 6E (2×2 MIMO), Bluetooth 5.3 and 5G with peak download speeds of up to 4.7 Gbps, and support for the NavIC navigation system. According to unofficial reports, the first Dimensity 8250-based smartphone could be the OPPO Reno12, targeting a price point starting at $359 (RUB 32,965).
