Apple is expected to introduce 2nm chips next year, just in time for the iPhone 17 lineup.
Cupertino has reserved all of TSMC’s 2nm capacity, but due to some issues with the new process, the SoC will only launch in the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max.

Rumors out of Taiwan say TSMC has already demonstrated the new chip, but it still needs help from other suppliers to get it ready to be installed in smartphones. Partners need to supply materials, equipment, silicon-based smart technologies (ICs) and electronics design automation (EDA).

The 2nm line has already been installed at the Baoshan plant and will start trial production in the third quarter of 2024, three months ahead of schedule. TSMC is expected to make the N2 process available to Apple and Nvidia, which will help the company outpace Samsung and Intel in the chip manufacturing market.
