Rumor: Apple will use its 5G modem starting in 2025

The brand currently relies on Qualcomm, and popular analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has confirmed previous reports, claiming that won’t change in the next two years. He believes Apple should switch to its own 5G chips from 2025 onwards.

This means that the upcoming iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 will use Qualcomm 5G modems, and the iPhone 17 could possibly be the first iPhone to use a 5G modem of its own design. We’ve also heard that the iPhone SE 4, which has reportedly been delayed until 2025, will use Qualcomm’s own 5G chip.
There are no details about Apple’s 5G modems, so it’s unclear what improvements and benefits they will bring to the iPhone compared to Qualcomm’s 5G chips.
Earlier this year, we learned that the Apple giant is also considering using its own wireless chip for Bluetooth and Wi-Fi in the iPhone, with the first iPhone with its own wireless chip coming in 2025. The company is also reportedly considering combining wireless and cellular chips to reduce manufacturing costs and improve energy efficiency.
