Return of a legend: Dragon Quest 1 and 2 remakes will be released in the fall

Square Enix continues its re-release of the iconic Dragon Quest series this year, following last year’s HD-2D remake of Dragon Quest 3. Timing the announcement to coincide with the original game’s release date of May 27, 1986, the company said that the HD-2D remakes of Dragon Quest 1 and 2 will be released on October 30. The games will be available on Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and on PC via Steam.

Chronology of events and storyline

The events of the first two games in the series take place after the finale of the third installment. The story of Dragon Quest 3 told of a hero who set out to complete the mission of his father, a legendary warrior who battled the demon Baramos. In Dragon Quest 1 and 2, players meet the descendants of that hero, who earned the title «Erdrick» after defeating him in the previous game.

Gameplay and visual style features

The two installments are turn-based RPGs in which the player controls the actions of the entire team. Like the other games in the series, they feature a unique visual style created by Akira Toriyama, the author of the famous Dragon Ball manga. The remake features updated 2D graphics in high resolution, a redesigned combat system, significant story additions and improvements to the experience.

Pre-order Editions and Bonuses

The Dragon Quest 1 and 2 remakes are already available for pre-order digitally and physically for $60. The exception to this is the digital versions for Switch and Switch 2 – those will arrive at a later date. As a pre-order bonus, players will receive in-game items. The Collector’s Edition will additionally offer digital wallpapers, six playable characters, a dog, and two bosses.

The Collector’s Edition will also include a digital wallpaper, six playable characters, a dog, and two bosses.

Full Collection: Erdrick Trilogy

For those who missed the remake of the third installment, Square Enix will also be releasing a digital Erdrick Trilogy Collection, which will include all three games and will be released on the same day, October 30.

The Return of a Legend: Dragon Quest 1 and 2 remakes will be released in the fall was first published on ITZine.ru.
