Asus teases a new version of the ROG Ally: what to expect from the gaming console?

Asus is reigniting interest in its next ROG Ally by releasing a new teaser on Twitter. The 34-second video doesn’t show off the console itself, but it does give a hint of what improvements are in store.

In the video, ROG mascot is working on a new version of Ally, and the screen flashes hints of “marathon endurance,” “more capacity,” “higher speed,” and “fresh design”. It all hints at increased performance, improved battery, more memory and a redesigned look. There’s also a scene where the original ROG Ally and the ROG Raikiri Pro gamepad merge into a single device, but it’s not clear what that means yet.

Because of the publication date, many people thought it was a Laughter Day joke, but it’s worth remembering that the first ROG Ally was also announced on April 1 – and it turned out to be a real device.

The first version of the ROG Ally appeared in 2023. Experts praised its wide compatibility with games and good performance, but criticized weak battery, crude software, and minor design issues. In 2024, the ROG Ally X was released, which addressed some of the shortcomings but retained the same processor.

The Ally 2 is expected to inherit the refinements of the Ally X, but with a new processor and updated display. There are also rumors of an Xbox portable console from ASUS, but that’s likely a completely different project that will come out later.
