Xiaomi patented a new way to charge wearable devices
By ForGeeks Xiaomi has filed a new patent application for an alternative charging technology for smart watches, fitness trackers and other wearable electronics. Instead of the usual accessories, it is proposed to use sunlight as a power source. The first patent illustrations showing the principle of the device of future gadgets have appeared.
Solar panels are already used to charge electronics, but they are not usually used in compact devices due to size limitations. To solve this problem, Xiaomi proposes to apply a special “concentrator” that should focus light rays on the photovoltaic cell, increasing its efficiency while maintaining its compact size.
The patent illustration shows a smart ring equipped with a solar panel and a lens to collect the sun’s rays at a single point. The company notes that the development aims to address the battery life of low-power wearable devices, which are typically very limited in capacity due to size and weight requirements. The date when the first gadgets using such technology will be available is not yet known.
