The second-generation Apple Vision Pro could come out as early as 2025

Apple is preparing to unveil an updated version of its Vision Pro headset – it could come out as early as the end of this year. Bloomberg reports that the device will get an M4 processor and a redesigned mount to improve comfort for extended use.
The first-generation Vision Pro went on sale in February 2024 for $3499 and featured an M2 chip that, at the time of release, was already three years since its debut. The updated model, sources say, will focus on increased use of AI, which is in line with Apple’s overall strategy to bring artificial intelligence to devices in its iPhone, iPad and Mac lineup.

The device will get the M4 and a new mount design
According to Bloomberg, Apple is testing a new version of the headset with a focus on improving processing power and convenience. The second-generation Vision Pro is expected to get an M4 chip with a 16-core neural unit that’s twice as fast as the same module in the M2. Moreover, the company may equip the new product with a version of the chip with more than 16 neural cores, a configuration previously available only in the M2 Ultra and M3 Ultra.
In addition, Apple is working to improve the ergonomics of the device. The Vision Pro weighs about 1.4 pounds (roughly 635 grams), and many users complained of discomfort when wearing it for long periods of time. The new version is planned to introduce a refined mount. Previously, The Verge reporter Wes Davis noted that a combination of a standard textile strap and an optional $50 strap from Belkin provided the best comfort.

The next Vision Pro may be lighter and cheaper
Besides updating the current model, Apple is working on several other devices. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently suggested that a headset with an M5 processor could come out in late 2025. According to both Kuo and Gurman, Apple plans to release a lighter and more affordable version of the Vision Pro by 2027.

An augmented reality glasses format device conceptually similar to Meta* products is also in development. This could be a new direction for the company’s AR devices, where Apple has so far relied on high-performance mixed reality headsets.
