Samsung Galaxy Ring smart ring makes its way to South Africa – global expansion continues

It’s been nine months since the Galaxy Ring debuted, and Samsung’s wearable device is still rolling out around the world. Now South Africa has joined the ranks of countries where it’s officially available, another step toward a global launch.

Samsung’s slowest global expansion in history?”

The Galaxy Ring was first unveiled in July 2024, but has only been sold in select markets throughout that time. Despite the global interest, the device has been slow and incremental to appear in new countries. However, Samsung is sticking to its plan: in January, the company promised to expand sales to 15 new regions, including South Africa – and now it’s delivered on that promise.

From April 1, 2025, the Galaxy Ring is officially available in South Africa through Samsung branded stores, the official online store and the Samsung Shop mobile app. The device is priced at 7,999 South African Rand (about 435 US dollars).

Till April 30 April 30 there is a special offer: customers who place an order for Galaxy Ring together with the new Galaxy S25 get 20% discount on the ring. Considering the price of the device, that’s a very generous savings.

What the Galaxy Ring can do: features and specifications

Galaxy Ring is not just a stylish accessory, but a full-fledged health tracking gadget. Here’s what it offers:

  • Support for nine sizes (5 to 13 on the US scale)
  • Autonomy up to 7 days – depending on ring size and battery type
  • Water resistance to 10 ATM – can be kept on when washing hands, showering and even swimming (up to 100 meters deep)
  • Precise health and sleep tracking, including:
    • Heart rate monitoring
    • Skin temperature measurement
    • Sleep phase analysis

    Compatibility and limitations

At the moment Galaxy Ring only works with Samsung Galaxy smartphones and is tightly integrated with the branded app Samsung Health. This means that owners of devices from other brands won’t be able to use all of the gadget’s features just yet.

    What’s next?

Although Samsung is in no rush to roll out the Galaxy Ring globally, the device’s appearance in new markets speaks to a consistent promotional strategy. The ring is likely to become available in other countries in the coming months, including regions in Europe and Asia where official sales have not yet begun.
