TCL unveiled its new flagship TV QM8K

TCL has officially unveiled its flagship 2025 TV lineup, the QM8K series. It’s a follow-up to last year’s QM851G, now with a number of significant technical improvements. Highlights include a proprietary CrystGlow WHVA panel and a redesigned Halo Control System backlighting system that promises more accurate color reproduction and improved HDR imaging.
Frameless design and improved panel
The new QM8K series gets a premium look with ZeroBorder design: the overall thickness of the frame and bezel is only 3-4mm. The case is made of aircraft-grade aluminum with a ceramic anodized coating for increased rigidity and durability. It also features an anti-reflective coating and a 40% wider viewing angle that solves the problem of color distortion and glare when viewed from the side.
Advanced backlighting system and precise brightness control
TCL has refined the Mini LED backlighting system, increasing the number of local dimming zones to 35% and increasing peak brightness by 65% over the previous generation. The new version of Halo Control features a higher power LED, a micro-lens for precise light control and Micro OD technology that minimizes the distance between the backlight and the diffuser. This eliminates ghosting and improves contrast.
The maximum brightness level reaches the HDR5000 standard and the number of dimming zones is up to 3800. Adjustments are made using a 23-bit Bi-Directional Backlight Controller to control brightness at 65,000 levels. There’s also a Dynamic Light algorithm that enhances SDR content to a level closer to HDR.

Cinema without extra speakers
For audiophiles, TCL has equipped the QM8K with speakers customized by Bang & Olufsen. The TV supports Dolby Atmos and DTS Virtual:X with upward-facing speakers, creating a surround sound effect without an external audio system.
Gaming capabilities and high refresh rate
The AiPQ Pro processor with Zero-Delay Transient Response is responsible for performance, minimizing latency and eliminating motion blur. The screen supports a native 144Hz refresh rate and dynamic refresh rates up to 288Hz via Game Accelerator 288. AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) technologies are also available, making the TV a great choice for gamers.
Smart features and connectivity interfaces
QM8K runs Google TV with a new GUI and voice control without a remote. A backlit remote is included. Dolby Vision IQ, HDR10+, IMAX Enhanced and Filmmaker Mode are supported.
The TV has all the ports you need: four HDMI (one with eARC support), USB, Ethernet, optical audio output, and an RF input for an antenna or cable. On the wireless side, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth, built-in Chromecast and Apple AirPlay 2 for streaming from other devices are available.
Wirelessly, there’s Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth, and built-in Chromecast and Apple AirPlay 2 for streaming from other devices.
