China’s TCL revealed the start of production of next-generation OLED screens

Chinese manufacturer TCL China Star Optoelectronics Technology plans to begin mass production of organic LED printed panels in the second half of 2024. If it succeeds, the company will be nearly two years ahead of its South Korean rival Samsung Display.
The printed OLED panels have longer lifespan, clearer text display and more stable color gamut compared to conventional OLED screens. Speaking of which, Samsung Display is building an 8.7 generation OLED IT screen production line, which is expected to start operation in 2026. South Korea’s LG Display is also planning to produce the latest generation of OLED panels. Chinese rival BOE Technology Group is building an 8.6-generation OLED screen factory, which is expected to be operational in 2026 or 2027.

With so much eighth-generation or higher OLED display capacity coming online, OLED screen shipments in 2028 are likely to be nearly 10 times larger than in 2022.
