Sony has announced the latest model in its lineup of popular professional mirrorless cameras: the A9 III. It’s a full-frame camera with a built-in 24.6-megapixel sensor that will replace the A9 II, which was released four years ago. But the most important thing about the A9 III — is its new shutter.

The A9 III — the first full-frame camera to utilize a global shutter. This allows every pixel to be displayed simultaneously, so there is no distortion in both stills and video.

Thanks to this new global shutter, the A9 III can shoot 4K video at 120fps without cropping, shoot in 14-bit RAW format at 120fps for 192 frames with real-time autofocus, flash sync at any shutter speed and a maximum shutter speed of 1/80,000 (1/16,000 in continuous shooting).

There’s also a one-second pre-shot function that can take 120 frames before the shutter button is pressed, and a custom button function that can temporarily increase shutter speed during continuous button presses.

The Sony A9 III will be available next spring, priced at $5,999 (R$554,400).
