Samsung T9 weighs 122 grams (4.3 ounces) and measures 88x60x14 millimeters (3.5×2.4×0.6 inches). The T9’s new silicone case is slightly thicker than the T7’s, adding a little more than 20 grams to the drive’s weight, while increasing the thickness by a negligible difference.

The T9 comes with a pair of 0.45-meter (1.48-foot) cables. One connects USB-C to USB-C, and the other — USB-C to USB-A. The cables are quite long compared to many of those that come with portable drives, and are excellent. The T9 connector, which has a blue status light next to it, ensures a secure and tight connection.

The performance improvement is due to the move to a USB 3.2 Gen 2 × 2 interface over the standard USB 3.2 Gen 2 used in the T7, and is even faster than the T5 before it. The new T9 portable drive promises data transfer speeds of up to 2,000 Mbps using USB 3.2 Gen 2 × 2, nearly double the theoretical maximum speed of the T7.
