Samsung is planning a revolution for the Galaxy Ring: screen control and data transfer

The Galaxy Ring is a relatively new device in Samsung’s lineup, limited so far to fitness tracker functionality. But the company has more ambitious plans for this wearable gadget.

Control your devices with the Ring

According to a recently published Samsung patent, the Galaxy Ring may gain the ability to control screens and transfer data between connected devices such as smartphones, laptops and tablets.

The patent describes a method of controlling a display using an input device, with the smart ring playing the role. Illustrations show how the Galaxy Ring connects wirelessly to laptops and tablets, allowing the user to move files, apps and other actions with the swipe of a finger.

Previous ideas and perspectives

This isn’t Samsung’s first patent describing innovative features for the Galaxy Ring. The company previously unveiled a concept for a ring that automatically adjusts its size using the user’s body pressure for a perfect fit.

While there’s no guarantee that these features will appear in the next version of the device, their practicality makes the prospect very tempting.

Not Just a Ring

Interestingly, Samsung notes in the patent description: the input device could include not only a smart ring, but also, for example, an electronic pen. This hints at a possible expansion of similar features for the S Pen.

The future of Samsung’s wearable devices promises to be not only convenient, but truly innovative.
