Samsung prepares to launch Ballie smart home robot with Google Gemini

Samsung’s Ballie, a smart assistant equipped with generative artificial intelligence, will be available this summer. The company has been working on the project since 2020, first unveiling the concept at CES in the form of a spherical robot that can roll around the house, record video and respond to voice commands.

The Ballie has evolved considerably since then. Today, Samsung says the device will get built-in support for Google Cloud AI services, including the Gemini model. This will give the robot the ability to engage in live dialogue, recognize its surroundings, and adapt to the user’s needs.

Ballie will be able to control lights and appliances in a smart home, greet guests, memorize owners’ daily routines, remind them of events, and prompt them with important information. In a promo video released by Samsung, the robot demonstrates how it cares for its occupants by offering a child a cartoon, reminding adults to dress warmly, and helping them get ready for work and school.

Artificial intelligence allows the device to analyze sound, camera images, and sensory data in a room. As a result, Ballie is able to recommend solutions to improve comfort, well-being and even lifestyle.

The price of the new product is still a secret, as is the exact launch date. However, pre-registration is already available on Samsung’s website for anyone who wants to be among the first to order a Ballie.
