Cool Tech Zone has announced the launch of a crowdfunding campaign for the original Tangara audio player. The novelty is very similar to the famous Apple product, but it lacks all the ecosystem limitations of the “progenitor” – users will be able to customize its firmware and even print a new case by themselves.

The compact case features a 1.8-inch, 160×128-pixel digital display and an intuitive capacitive “wheel” on its front panel. An ESP32 processor serves as the main control system, while a Bluetooth (SBC) module provides support for formats such as MP3, FLAC, Opus and Vorbis. Also on board the device is a WM8523 DAC, complemented by an INA1620 amplifier, capable of delivering bit rates up to 16-bit/48kHz. However, this DAC model can support higher quality audio, up to 24-bit/192kHz, and it is expected that such firmware updates will be available to users. The player also features a classic 3.5mm audio jack (32 ohms) for headphone connectivity.
