Everything shown at Meta* Connect: Quest 3, smart glasses and Meta* AI

Meta**The company just wrapped up its keynote at the 2023 Connect conference. As promised, the company revealed a lot more about its Quest 3 headset. It also announced its newest pair of «smart» glasses, created in collaboration with Ray-Ban. Surprisingly, CEO Mark Zuckerberg also talked about some of the innovations in artificial intelligence.

Meta** Quest 3

release date.

The company first showed off the Quest 3 back in June to get ahead of Apple’s Vision Pro announcement. However, we had to wait a few months to find out all the details about the mixed reality headset.

The Quest 3

The Meta** Quest 3 headset is fully color-permeable and capable of embedding augmented reality elements into its surroundings. It’s the first consumer device powered by the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 chip, and the company claims that its performance is double that of the Quest 2. Higher resolution and greater depth of field are expected, but the refresh rate remains the same —90Hz.

The latest model is supposed to be more comfortable for those who wear glasses, and there’s a special disk for adjusting the interpupillary distance. Meta** has updated the Quest controllers, adding haptic feedback and doing away with tracking rings — the company says the new sensors handle the tracking.

In December, Quest 3 will get support for Xbox Cloud Gaming, as well as a host of VR games of its own. You’ll be able to use the headset for work if you want. By the end of the year, Microsoft 365 apps will be available on Quest, and soon you’ll be able to access Windows on the headset.

Pre-orders for the Quest 3 are open now. The headset starts at $500 for the 128GB memory version, and you’ll have to shell out $650 for a variant with twice as much storage. The 512GB memory model comes with a six-month trial of Meta* Quest+, and for a limited time, both versions come with the game Asgard’s Wrath 2. The headset will go on sale October 10.

The headset will be available for purchase on October 10.

Ray-Ban Meta* smartglasses

.

The company unveiled another hardware device at Connect. It has also partnered with Ray-Ban to create «smart» glasses.

The smartglasses, originally named Ray-Ban, have vastly improved specs over the Ray-Ban Stories. They feature a 12MP wide-angle camera that can record 1080p video at 60 frames per second. Video capture time is limited to 60 seconds, but that’s good enough for Instagram Stories. The glasses are also equipped with 32GB of storage.

There are five microphones for capturing spatial sound. The speakers are louder and let in less noise. There’s also a second frame design, and the charging case looks like a regular Ray-Ban protective case.

Pre-orders for the Ray-Ban Meta* smartglasses open today. They’re priced at $299, and will go on sale October 17.

The device will be available in stores on October 17.

Artificial Intelligence Updates

It’s impossible to do without artificial intelligence in 2023, so of course the company has gotten some updates in that area as well. It’s starting to offer a few dozen artificial intelligence chatbots voiced by a variety of (in some cases, literally) celebrities. Meta* AI’s new generative AI assistant will be available on platforms such as WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram*, etc.

In addition, Instagram** will feature generative editing of images using artificial intelligence. You’ll be able to change the appearance of images, such as giving them the look of watercolor paintings. A generative «green screen» feature based on artificial intelligence, similar to what YouTube recently introduced, is coming soon. In addition, artificial intelligence-generated stickers will also appear on these services.
