Leica has unveiled the Q3 Monochrom, a new compact camera with a 60 MP black and white sensor
Leica has launched a monochrome version of its Q3 model, getting a 60-megapixel sensor and a redesigned design in the company’s signature minimalist style.
Leica has expanded its compact full-frame camera lineup with the Q3 Monochrom. It’s a new version of the Q3 that features a sensor that records only brightness – no color filters. The company continues the tradition of monochrome cameras begun with the M9 Monochrom in 2012, adapting the technology to the current generation of compact systems.

60 MP sensor with no color filter and Triple Resolution support
The new 60 MP monochrome sensor captures only brightness information, resulting in more detailed images, high sharpness and extended tonal range. Triple Resolution technology is supported – the user can choose to shoot at 60, 36 or 18 MP. The ISO range is 100-200,000.

The camera supports video recording at resolutions up to 8K. The optics remain the same, with the Leica Summilux 28mm f/1.7 ASPH fixed lens providing low noise in low light. A built-in macro mode lets you shoot from a minimum distance of 17cm.
Refreshed look and IP52 protection
Q3 Monochrom retains the signature look of the Q series, but in an all-black finish. The metal body, lens and hood have a matte monochrom finish, and all engraving is in black or gray. To reinforce the minimalism, Leica has removed the red logo from the front panel. The camera is made in Germany and is IP52 dust and splash proof.
5.76 MP viewfinder, hybrid autofocus and digital zoom up to 90mm
Hardware improvements include a 5.76-megapixel OLED viewfinder, a flip-up touchscreen display and a hybrid autofocus system. A digital zoom extends the effective range to 90mm. Wireless interfaces include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB-C and Micro HDMI. The camera fully supports the Leica FOTOS app for fast file transfer.

Content Credentials support and new accessories
The Q3 Monochrom is the first Q-series camera to support Content Credentials, a system that adds a CAI digital signature to each shot to authenticate the image. The company is also rolling out a new separation between photo and video menus; the update will be available for the Q3 and Q3 43 by the end of the year.
