JBL has released the next generation of its most powerful portable speaker, the Boombox 4. The model is lighter, gets AI Sound Boost intelligent sound processing, USB-C lossless support and up to 34 hours of battery life.

New design and power
Boombox 4 retains the signature cylindrical body and large carrying handle, but is lighter by nearly 1 kg compared to the last model. The speaker now weighs in at 5.9 lbs.
Performance is up: in battery mode, the speaker delivers 50 percent more power than the Boombox 3. There are two 60W RMS woofers and two 40W RMS tweeters. A third passive radiator has been added and the midrange drivers have been updated.
Boombox 4 is designed for both indoor and outdoor use. It’s IP68-rated for dust and water immersion.
AI Sound Boost for clear sound
For the first time, JBL has incorporated AI Sound Boost into a portable speaker. The technology analyzes music in real time and adjusts the delivery to maintain clarity and reduce distortion, even at maximum volume.

Compactness and Auracast connectivity
Despite the increase in power, the Boombox 4 is 12% lighter than its predecessor. An updated handle provides a more comfortable grip when carrying it around.
The speaker now supports Auracast: users can pair multiple compatible JBL models in stereo or “party mode” without complicated in-app settings. This allows you to expand the sound area in large venues.
Audio over USB-C and removable battery
The Boombox 4 features a rare mode for portable speakers USB-C lossless audio. When connected to a laptop or smartphone, the sound is streamed directly without Bluetooth compression, which is especially important for fans of high quality.
The internal battery can now be replaced on its own. It’s sold separately and changes in three steps, extending the life of the device.
Autonomy and recharging devices
JBL claims up to 28 hours of battery life on a single charge. In Playtime Boost mode, the battery life increases to 34 hours. A full charge takes about 3 hours.
The speaker can be used as a powerbank to charge smartphones and other gadgets through the USB ports.
Price and Availability
JBL Boombox 4 is priced at $549.95. The speaker will be available in black, blue, and Squad camo variants. Pre-orders are already open on JBL’s website, with sales starting September 28, 2025.
In comparison, the JBL Boombox 3 costs $399.95, but doesn’t support AI Sound Boost, Auracast, or USB-C audio.
