Canon unveiled new products for the film and photography industry

Canon U.S.A. announced several new products at once: the EOS C50 compact cinema camera, the RF85mm F1.4 L VCM hybrid lens, firmware updates for the Cinema EOS, an updated PowerShot compact camera, and the CINE-SERVO 11-55mm T2.95-3.95 cinema lens.
The EOS C50 has become Canon’s smallest and lightest cinema camera (about 680g). It features a new 7K full-frame CMOS sensor, supports 7K 60P internal RAW recording, and 32 MP still photography. Two base ISOs are supported — 800 and 6400, 12-bit Cinema RAW Light recording up to 7K 60P and for the first time for Cinema EOS — the 3:2 open gate format. The camera offers a wide range of formats (Cinema RAW Light, XF-AVC, XF-AVC S, XF-HEVC S) and can shoot cropped video in 2K while operating in 4K.

The camera supports XC protocol, remote control via Wi-Fi or USB-C Ethernet, and is compatible with the Multi Camera Control App and frame.io Camera to Cloud platform. The detachable top handle includes two full-size XLR inputs, a record button and a zoom rocker. The RF mount opens up compatibility with new lenses, including the RF85mm F1.4 L VCM Hybrid.
RF85mm F1.4 L VCM Hybrid Lens is built for stills and video. The lens has an aperture of f/1.4 and is ideal for portraits and cinematic images with soft bokeh.
The lens has a fast f/1.4 aperture and is ideal for portraits and movies with soft bokeh.

Firmware for the EOS C400, C80, C70 and R5C will be released later in 2025: it will add support for open gate 3:2, improve focus peaking, view assist and button and joystick operation.
PowerShot ELPH 360 HS A received only one notable update — the slot now supports microSD instead of SD. The camera will be available in black and silver.

CINE-SERVO 11-55mm T2.95-3.95 is designed for professional film photography. The lens offers a 100° angle of view, covers Super 35mm sensors and features a 1.5x extender for use with full-frame cameras. It includes a new drive with faster autofocus and aperture control, focus breathing compensation, a USB-C port for personalization and a 16-bit encoder for virtual shooting. Available in RF and PL mount versions, it supports Cooke/i and Zeiss eXtended Data.
