Audio-Technica launches limited-edition ATH-WP900SE headphones crafted from ash wood, tuned for string instruments

Audio-Technica Japan has unveiled a limited-edition version of its full-size ATH-WP900SE headphones, featuring earcups made from solid ash wood. This model is specially designed for accurate and expressive playback of string instruments, with a unique finish crafted by renowned Japanese guitar maker Fujigen.

The ATH-WP900SE is now available for pre-order in Japan at a recommended price of ¥110,000 (about $750). Official sales begin on February 20, 2026.

Inside, the headphones sport 53mm drivers housed in earcups with acoustic ports, custom-designed voice coils, and ventilation holes. According to Audio-Technica, this design delivers warm, precise, and detailed sound, especially tailored for guitars and other string instruments. The frequency response ranges from 5 Hz to 50 kHz, with a sensitivity of 98 dB/mW, impedance of 37 ohms, and a maximum input power of 1,000 mW.

The earcups are crafted from solid ash and coated with a three-tone sunburst lacquer finish, echoing Fujigen’s signature guitar styling. For long listening sessions, the headband and ear pads are padded with memory foam wrapped in synthetic leather. The cups can swivel and fold flat, making it easier to store them in the included carrying case.

The ATH-WP900SE comes with two detachable 1.2-meter A2DC cables: an unbalanced 3.5mm jack and a balanced 4.4mm jack, allowing you to connect the headphones to guitar amplifiers or portable audio players alike. The headphones weigh in at 235 grams.
