Apple will unveil the Watch Series 9 and Watch Ultra 2 at its Wonderlust event on September 12. The smartwatch is rumored to be similar to its predecessors, but Bloomberg claims the watches will use a new version of Apple’s optical heart-rate sensor, rather than the third-generation heart-rate sensor from the Watch Series 8 and Watch Ultra.

Watch Series 9 and Watch Ultra 2 will get other improvements to sensors and internal components to improve speed, accuracy, and performance. In addition, like the iPhone 15 series, they’ll feature a new ultra-wideband U2 chip to improve Find My capabilities.

The publication claims that this year’s Apple Watch will feature a performance boost, however, with the Cupertino-based tech giant planning to «heavily advertise the significant increase in processing speed». We’ve previously heard that the Watch Series 9 will utilize a new A15-based SoC.

Watch Series 9 will be offered in 41mm and 45mm sizes, while the Watch Ultra 2, which is expected to be made from recycled materials and come in black, will come in a single 49mm size. Apple is also testing 3D-printed stainless steel cases for the Watch Series 9 models, with the Ultra lineup expected to switch to them next year.
