Apple Vision Pro 2 may get the M5 chip instead of the M4 chip

Apple Vision Pro will celebrate its two-year anniversary in February 2025. According to MacRumors, the next version of the headset, the Apple Vision Pro 2, may come with a more powerful processor than expected.

It was previously thought that the updated model would get an M4 chip, which would be in line with the strategy of the first version of the device, which came out with an M2 processor, although an M3 was already available at the time. However, in a new series of posts, MacRumors claims that Apple’s code, accidentally published in the public domain, mentions an M5 chip for the Vision Pro 2.

The leaked Apple code has revealed other details

In addition to information about the Vision Pro 2, the same code allegedly reveals that the Apple Watch Series 11 will not get a performance boost, and that the next version of the iPad mini will be powered by the A19 Pro processor. By comparison, the current iPad mini model has an A17 Pro chip and supports Apple Intelligence.

MacRumors says the leak comes as the company “accidentally published internal information about future processors” in code available to developers. Details of the data’s origin have not been specified, and it’s unclear to what extent it reflects the final specs of future devices.

No official confirmations

Apple traditionally doesn’t comment on rumors and leaks. So to find out if the Vision Pro 2 will indeed get the M5 chip, we’ll have to wait for the official announcement of the updated headset and other new products, including the new iPad mini.
