Apple Reality Pro will get two 4K displays

An Apple AR/VR headset called Reality Pro will be announced on June 5. According to Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), the headset will have two 1.41-inch micro-OLEDs providing 4,400 pixels per inch resolution and more than 5,000 nits of brightness. In a follow-up tweet, the analyst said the resolution should be “4K per eye.”

With a 1.41-inch diagonal and a round/square display, the side is 1 inch and the resolution is 4,000 x 4,000 pixels per display. These numbers are impressive because the Meta* Quest Pro’s resolution is 1800 x 1920 pixels per eye and the PlayStation VR 2’s is 2000 x 2040 pixels per eye.

The brightness value here is 5 times higher than the standard nits we’re talking about in the context of smartphones. However, the human eye perceives light differently, and the number should be calculated exponentially. As with iris, there is one step from 1000 to 2000 nits, a second from 2000 to 4000 nits, a third from 4000 to 8000 nits, etc. This still means that the Reality Pro displays will be almost three times brighter than a smartphone screen at maximum brightness.

The headset is expected to cost about $1,500.
