Apple has updated the AirPods Max, adding ultra-low latency audio

Four years after the AirPods Max debuted, Apple is gearing up for a long-awaited update to its overhead headphones, adding lossless audio and ultra-low-latency audio features. These innovations will be available with the release of iOS 18.4, iPadOS 18.4, and macOS Sequoia 15.4 in April.
An update to the AirPods Max will be available in April.
This update will be the only significant improvement to the AirPods Max since their launch, aside from the introduction of a model with a USB-C charging port, which was introduced in September. However, it’s worth noting that the new features will only be available for the USB-C version of AirPods Max, not the original model with the Lightning port. This is due to technical limitations related to the performance of the Lightning model’s digital-to-analog converter.

In addition, lossless audio and ultra-low latency audio will not be available wirelessly. To take advantage of these features, users will need to connect the headphones to an audio source using a USB-C cable. Fortunately, Apple is starting to sell a new USB-C to 3.5mm cable, priced at $39, that will allow you to connect iOS or iPadOS devices to speakers or car stereos with 3.5mm audio ports.

That said, AirPods Max owners with USB-C will be able to enjoy 24-bit, 48kHz lossless audio. The lossless sound will also be compatible with personalized spatial audio, according to Apple. Apple Music subscribers will be able to listen to more than 100 million tracks in the lossless audio format.
