IFA 2025: Acer unveils new Chrome OS devices

Acer announced a number of new Chrome OS-powered devices and PCs at IFA 2025.
The main device among them was an aluminum Chromebook Plus Spin 514 with a MediaTek Kompanio Ultra 910 processor. This chip is the smartphone counterpart to the flagship Dimensity 9400, but with a slightly simplified GPU. It includes one powerful Cortex-X925, three Cortex-X4, and four Cortex-A720 cores, making the Chromebook Plus Spin 514 one of the most capable Chrome OS-based Arm devices.

The chip also uses the built-in NPU for AI tasks on the device, such as generative image editing and real-time task automation. The Chromebook supports built-in Google AI features, including integration with Lens, and has a separate Quick Insert key for quick access to tools and generative imaging.
Additional specs include a 14-inch touchscreen (1800p at 60Hz or 1200p at 120Hz) with USI 2.0 stylus support, a 70 Wh battery with up to 17 hours of runtime, up to 16GB of RAM and up to 256GB of UFS storage. Bluetooth 5.4, Wi-Fi 7, a 5 MP or 1080p camera, and an optional fingerprint scanner are also provided. The Chromebook Plus Spin 514 will be available in North America and EMEA next month, with a U.S. starting price of $699.99.
For the desktop experience on Chrome OS, Acer has announced two new Chromeboxes.
Chromebox CXI6 is a premium model with a choice of processors from Intel Core i3-1305U to Core i7-150U, up to 16GB RAM and up to 256GB M.2 SSD. It features five USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports, two HDMI ports, DisplayPort, an SD slot, a 2.5G LAN port, and M.2 slots for Wi-Fi and SSD, as well as support for Bluetooth 5.3 and Wi-Fi 6E.

A more affordable and quieter model is the fanless Chromebox Mini CXM2. It features Intel N150-N350 processors, up to 16GB of RAM, and up to 128GB of eMMC. Ports include five USB-A, two HDMI, one USB-C (USB 3.2 Gen 2), and gigabit Ethernet. There’s also Bluetooth 5.3 and Wi-Fi 6E.
The Chromebox CXI6 will go on sale in the U.S. in December for $519.99. The Chromebox Mini CXM2 will be available in North America in Q1 2026 for a starting price of $329.99.
