Sonos replaces CEO after failed app redesign

Sonos has officially appointed Tom Conrad as CEO. He had been acting head since January 2025 after the departure of Patrick Spence, under whom the company faced widespread criticism over a failed app redesign.
Sonos app led to outages and layoffs
Patrick Spence led Sonos for eight years, but his departure coincided with a crisis over the redesign of the branded app. Users complained about the lack of key features and poor performance. As a result, Sonos was forced to delay new product releases and cut 100 employees to focus on fixing bugs.
Tom Conrad successfully stabilized the situation
Tom Conrad previously served on the Sonos board of directors, as well as co-founder of music service Pandora, VP of Snap, and Chief Product Officer at Quibi. In his six months as interim CEO, he has streamlined processes and rebuilt trust in the brand.
Sonos Chairman Julius Genachowski said, “After a thorough and competitive search, we are confident that Tom is the best candidate to lead Sonos. He has brought back the team’s focus on the customer, implemented technological improvements and presented a clear vision for the company’s future.”
The company is launching new products and preparing the next generation of solutions
Under Conrad’s leadership, Sonos was able to stabilize the app and successfully launch new devices: the Sonos Ace headphones and the Sonos Arc Ultra soundbar. Conrad said the team is now “moving from rebuilding to creating the next generation of user experience.”
