Qualcomm: Sony will continue to produce smartphones for several more years

Sony has been releasing incredibly intriguing smartphones lately, but selling them in very small numbers. This has led many of the company’s fans to speculate that Sony may at some point exit the smartphone business, following in the footsteps of companies such as LG and HTC.
That’s definitely not going to happen in the next few years, however. The rumor of a possible exit from the smartphone business was dispelled by Qualcomm. The chipmaker announced that it has expanded its cooperation with Sony for Snapdragon platforms, which will run the Japanese company’s future smartphones. This is a multi-year deal, and it covers premium, high-end and mid-range devices.

“The joint effort between Sony and Qualcomm will focus on integrating Qualcomm Technologies’ advanced Snapdragon mobile platforms into future Sony smartphone lines, providing users with enhanced functionality, better performance and a more immersive user experience,” Qualcomm said in a press release.
