The government has banned the import of HP and Fujitsu laptops into Russia

The Russian government has updated the list of goods allowed to be imported into the country under the parallel import mechanism. According to the document, the list excludes notebooks of HP and Fujitsu brands, as well as some laser printers and non-medicated cosmetic products. This was reported by the agency “Interfax” citing data from the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
Why imports were banned
The Ministry of Industry and Trade explains the decision by strengthening local production and the possibility of replacement of supplies at the expense of friendly countries. The agency believes that market needs can now be met by domestic resources.
– According to the ministry’s representatives, Russian manufacturers are able to cover up to 68% of the demand for cosmetic products that do not have therapeutic properties.- In addition, the country annually produces about 100,000 laser printers, while the entire market is estimated at about 800,000 devices.
What’s going to change
Because of the changes, imports into Russia through the parallel channel are officially prohibited:
- Notebooks of HP and Fujitsu brands;
- a range of laser printing devices
- cosmetics not registered as therapeutic.
At the same time, parallel importation mechanisms are retained for other categories of equipment where substitution is not yet possible or is limited.
Stake on domestic brands
The Ministry of Industry and Trade hopes that the exclusion of popular Western goods from the list of parallel imports will allow:
- redistribute demand towards domestic machinery;
- support local production in the face of sanctions pressure;
- reduce dependence on foreign suppliers
It is also emphasized that cooperation with manufacturers from countries that did not support the sanctions allows to maintain the supply of alternative products – both in the electronics and household segments.
