The iPhone 16e has entered the top 10 best-selling smartphones in Europe

After months of pressure from European regulators, Apple finally got some good news from the European market. Analysts at Counterpoint Research reported that the iPhone 16e debuted on the list of the top ten best-selling smartphones in Europe in March 2025.
iPhone 16e: ranking and sales share
According to the report, the iPhone 16e ranked ninth overall in Europe and accounted for 8% of iPhone sales in the region, as well as 2% of all smartphone sales. The model performed slightly better in Western Europe, where it ranked seventh.
Phone 16e sales are behind previous models
Although a top 10 ranking confirms interest in the new product, the iPhone 16e’s result was modest compared to Apple’s previous mid-range models. For comparison:
- iPhone SE 2022 ranked sixth in Europe in its first month of sales and accounted for 12% of iPhone sales.
- iPhone SE 2020 started in third place with a 19% share of Apple’s sales.
At launch, demand for the iPhone 16e was 17% lower than the SE 2022 and 20% lower than the SE 2020.

The main reason is the high price
According to Counterpoint’s Jan Stryjak, the reason for the weaker start was price:
“The relatively high price of the iPhone 16e compared to previous SE models has limited sales in Europe. While the iPhone SE 2022 cost €429 at launch and the SE 2020 cost €479, the iPhone 16e’s €699 price tag makes it less attractive amid economic uncertainty. Plus, in some countries, the iPhone 15 sells for the same price as the iPhone 16e, so many buyers are opting for the more powerful, albeit nearly two-year-old, model.”

Even a little success is cause for optimism
Despite a modest result relative to its predecessors, the iPhone 16e managed to gain ground in the rankings and become one of the best-selling smartphones in Europe. With Apple in the region facing litigation, regulatory scrutiny and criticism, even moderate success is seen as positive news.
