Huawei and Sharp sign cross-licensing agreement

Huawei Technologies is expanding into the global electronics market despite U.S. sanctions. The company is looking at license royalties as an alternative to expansion. This time, Huawei has entered into a long-term cross-licensing agreement with Japan’s Sharp Corporation. The agreement covers cellular technologies, including 4G and 5G.

Huawei officials said advanced technical standards improve user experience and reduce the cost of devices and services. Sharp supported the deal on equal terms. To recall, Huawei entered into license agreements with Xiaomi and Ericsson this year. In the past, Huawei began transferring 5G technology licenses to its competitors in the smartphone segment, such as Samsung Electronics and Oppo.
