Carsharing can be made less accessible: the initiative to limit car rentals for inexperienced drivers was put forward by Mikhail Vetrov, a deputy of the Shushary municipality. He sent an appeal to the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation, proposing to prohibit access to rental services for people under 20 years of age and drivers with less than two years of experience.

Vetrov argues his proposal by the fact that carsharing is especially popular among young drivers who have just received their license. However, according to the deputy, they are more likely to make risky maneuvers and mistakes on the road, which creates a threat to other road users.

In addition, he proposed to introduce a single color for all carshare cars -regardless of the operator. Such a unified coloring, according to Vetrov, would become a “visual signal” for other road users and help them assess potential risks in a timely manner.

An additional suggestion, he said, would be to introduce a unified coloring for all carshare cars -regardless of the operator.

A proposal was also made to fix the requirements for a driver’s minimum length of service at the legislative level. “Only those who have at least two years of driving experience should rent a car,” said the author of the initiative.

Another suggestion was also made to fix the minimum driving experience requirement at the legislative level.

Reminder, earlier auto expert Dmitry Popov noted that more and more Russians are abandoning personal cars in favor of carsharing. This is due to the fact that many people do not take into account all the costs of owning a car – from maintenance to taxes and parking. However, according to Popov, rental cars are often involved in accidents: drivers do not have time to get used to the car, and the technical condition of some vehicles raises questions.

Today, carsharing services operate in dozens of Russian cities, and the audience of such platforms continues to grow. Safety remains a key issue, especially given the high accident rate among novice drivers.
