Tesla cars will now be driven by artificial intelligence

Tesla has unveiled the beta version of a major update to its FSD (v12) autonomous driving technology. According to Ilon Musk, this version introduces an “end-to-end neural network” that allows artificial intelligence to control the car’s behavior on the road.

Tesla’s FSD (v12) is a major update to its autonomous driving technology.

Previously, Tesla’s autopilot relied on pre-programmed code, but in the new FSD version, a neural network trained on millions of videos does the job. Tesla’s programmers were able to remove more than 300,000 lines of C++ code.

Interestingly, Tesla promised from the beginning that full autonomous driving would be powered by artificial intelligence, but it took more than 7 years to realize this feature. However, how it will work in practice, time will tell.

Time will tell.

The update is being released to a limited number of users for now so that the company can evaluate how the feature works before a full release. We already know from feedback that the new version of FSD works more harmoniously and naturally in some scenarios, but in other cases the autopilot performs worse than before. It may take time for the neural networks to adapt and self-train.

The new version of FSD is a good idea.
