Tesla unveiled an updated Model Y in China but kept the same price

On Sunday morning, Tesla’s Chinese unit announced in a post on WeChat that it has launched a new Model Y with design and performance changes, keeping the same starting price (via Reuters). The new car follows the company’s release in China of the redesigned Model 3, which was also made available in Europe early last month.
According to Tesla’s Chinese website, the Model Y’s acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is now 5.9 seconds, which, as Bloomberg notes, is slightly quicker than before. The car gets new rims and LED lighting in the dashboard, just like the updated Model 3.
The Model Y also gets new wheels and LED lighting in the dashboard.
The car starts at 263,900 yuan (about $37,000), with the company offering a range-enhanced version for 299,900 yuan (about $42,000) and a high-performance version for 349,900 yuan (about $49,000). Tesla has not announced an updated Model Y — like the Model 3 — in the United States. Here are some cropped images from Tesla’s WeChat post announcing the updated car:
