Renault has unveiled the 4 E-Tech electric crossover, which is the successor to the iconic Renault 4.

This new crossover is inspired by the popular Renault 4, which has become an iconic car of the past. Earlier this year, Renault also launched a modern electric version of the Model 5, continuing the trend of reviving the brand’s classic models in the electric era. The original Renault 4, launched in 1961 and often referred to as the 4L, was produced for over 30 years and offered in a variety of body styles, but is best known as a five-door hatchback. The new 4 E-Tech will be available exclusively in crossover format.

Design and features of the Renault 4 E-Tech

The Renault 4 E-Tech measures 163 inches long, which is about 11 inches shorter than the latest version of the Mini Countryman. The car can seat five people and offers nearly 15 cubic feet of storage space in the rear. There are two digital screens on the dashboard that serve as the instrument cluster and multimedia center. The infotainment system has Google built-in and supports a voice assistant.

An infotainment system is available.

The new 4 E-Tech uses the same CMF-B EV platform from the Renault Nissan Mitsubishi alliance as the 5 E-Tech. However, Renault is using their own unique version of the platform, which they’ve called AmpR Small – a more affordable electric vehicle solution.

Renault 4 E-Tech specs

Renault 4 E-Tech will be offered with two battery options: 40 and 52 kWh. The model with the more powerful battery is equipped with a 148 hp front-mounted electric motor, allowing it to accelerate to 100 km/h in 8.5 seconds. The version with the smaller battery will get a 121 hp motor, also mounted at the front.

The two batteries support fast charging, which can charge the battery from 15% to 80% in 30 minutes. With the larger battery, Renault promises a range of up to 250 miles on the European WLTP test cycle. However, in the US, where the stricter EPA cycle applies, this value may be lower. Two-way charging and a single pedal control function are also supported.

Additional charging is also supported.
