Red Magic 11 Air makes its global debut
Chinese brand Nubia has taken its gaming smartphone global with the Red Magic 11 Air, previously exclusive to the Chinese market. Touted as the world’s thinnest flagship aimed at gamers, the device pairs a cutting-edge design featuring a transparent back panel with top-tier performance powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 (marketed as Snapdragon 8 Elite) platform.
The standout feature here is the record-setting slimness – a mere 7.85 mm thick – yet Nubia managed to pack in one of the largest batteries on the market, a hefty 7000 mAh cell supporting 80W wired fast charging. Visually, the Red Magic 11 Air leans into a futuristic aesthetic with RGB lighting shining through its transparent rear, revealing some of the internal hardware. Up front, the 6.85-inch OLED display offers a 1.5K resolution, a 144 Hz refresh rate, and an exceptionally high 960 Hz touch sampling rate, crucial for competitive esports gameplay.
Cooling this powerhouse is the hybrid ICE 13.0 system, which combines a physical turbo fan spinning up to 24,000 RPM, graphene cooling layers, and an enlarged vapor chamber. In addition to the main Snapdragon chipset, gaming performance is boosted by a dedicated RedCore R4 chip, enhancing frame rate stability, image quality, and tactile feedback. Gameplay controls get a boost from dual touch-sensitive triggers with a 520 Hz response rate, mimicking the feel and responsiveness of physical gamepad buttons.
The phone runs on Android 16 out of the box, layered with Nubia’s custom Red Magic OS 11. Camera setup includes a dual module with a 50 MP main sensor and an 8 MP ultra-wide angle lens. Security-wise, the Red Magic 11 Air uses an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner embedded under the display. Additional features include stereo speakers, NFC, IP54-rated dust and water resistance, and dual SIM support.
The Red Magic 11 Air will ship in two color options: Quantum Black and Stardust White. Pricing starts at $529 for the 12 GB RAM and 256 GB storage variant, while the top-tier 16 GB RAM and 512 GB storage model costs $629. Its global launch aims to shake up the gaming smartphone arena, currently dominated by ASUS ROG Phone, Xiaomi Black Shark, and flagship models from mainstream brands.
