The manufacturer of the Atom electric car has revealed an unexpected feature of the model

Kama JSC, the developer of the domestic Atom electric car, has revealed details of one of the key design features of its new product. It’s about unusual swinging doors that significantly change the interior and functionality of the vehicle.

Atom’s new Atom electric car has been developed by Kama JSC.

According to the Autopilot portal, the new door design allowed to get rid of the body’s center pillar, which significantly increases the space inside the cabin. This solution not only provides freedom of movement, but also improves access to the rear seats. The doors are electric, equipped with electric drive, door closers and sensors that interact with the Driver Assistance System (ADAS).

The front doors of the Atom have retractable mechanical handles with buttons to open them. To make it easy for passengers to open the doors from the inside, there are special buttons on the panel. The rear doors open and close automatically with electric actuators for one-touch operation.

For safety, sensors and cameras are built into the design to monitor the surrounding area for potential threats. If the system detects danger, it signals and blocks the doors from opening. An important feature is a mechanism that stops the doors if there is an obstruction, as well as the ability to manually open the doors in the event of a power failure.

Security features include sensors and cameras that monitor the surrounding area for potential threats.

The absence of a center post also necessitated a different organization of the locking mechanisms. The locks are now integrated into the sills, with the door leaves additionally secured to each other. Hot-formed steel stiffeners are used to increase body strength. The main load in such situations falls on the massive sills, which include a reinforced traction battery housing. This solution ensures the reliability and safety of the occupants during the journey.

Serial production of the Atom electric car is scheduled for the third quarter of 2025 and will be organized at the Moskvich plant. The new car will be an important step in the development of the electric car industry in Russia and could attract the attention of not only local customers, but also international buyers seeking environmentally friendly transportation. This project emphasizes Russia’s commitment to creating its own innovative technologies in the automotive industry, while ensuring high standards of safety and convenience for users.
