Toyota Land Cruiser FJ low-cost SUV revealed ahead of premiere
By ForGeeks Japanese publication Best Car has published images of a promotional brochure detailing the new Toyota Land Cruiser FJ frame SUV. Before the official premiere, the model has already been revealed – key features, design and interior layout are known. Presentation is expected in the second half of 2025, and sales will start in 2026.
The most compact Land Cruiser in the lineup
The new model will be the most affordable and compact in the Land Cruiser family. As expected, it will receive the designation FJ and will be built on a shortened version of the platform TNGA-F -the same architecture used in the Land Cruiser Prado 250 and Hilux. The new vehicle is similar in design to the Hilux Champ, but retains full off-road geometry and off-road features.
Full SUV with classic mechanics
Despite its positioning as an “affordable” SUV, the Land Cruiser FJ is not lacking in serious tech:
- Permanent all-wheel drive with a Torsen center differential (40:60 torque distribution)
- Power transmission
- Inter-axle and rear differential locks
- Unlockable front stabilizer bar
- Geometric cross-country angles: entry – 33°, exit – 30°, ramp – 26°
- Rear suspension – with non-split axle
The engine is not specified in the brochure, but the design of the machine hints at the use of proven and inexpensive powertrains.
Prado 250-inspired design and a simple, functional interior
The Land Cruiser FJ’s exterior echoes the Prado 250’s features, but the body is more compact. Highlights include:
- Flat hood and rectangular shapes
- Simple front optics
- Minimal decorative elements
- Classic multimedia system with physical buttons
- Climate control pucks
- Simple transmission selector
- Multi steering wheel with physical keys
- Open air ducts without decorative panels
Market launch in 2026
According to a note in the brochure, the appearance and configuration of the production car could still change. However, the current design and layout are close to the final version. Toyota plans to introduce the Land Cruiser FJ in the second half of 2025. The main market is Asia, but deliveries to other regions are possible as an affordable alternative to the Prado.
