Lexus revealed the ES electric sedan with a futuristic design

Lexus has unveiled a completely redesigned seventh-generation ES sedan, marking the model’s biggest redesign since 2018. The novelty debuted at the Shanghai Motor Show and received not only electric version, but also radical changes in design, interior and technical stuff. Sales will start only in the middle of 2026, but the car has already managed to attract the attention of both fans of the brand and technology enthusiasts.
Inspired by the LF-ZL concept
The exterior of the new car is in the spirit of the futuristic concept LF-ZL shown earlier. The usual massive grille is gone, giving way to a more streamlined and dynamic front end. Visual emphasis is now placed on deeply rendered bodywork, gloss black inserts and the original rear LED strip with the Lexus logo replacing the traditional nameplate.



Also, for the first time for the ES model, there is a charging port in the body, confirming the presence of an full electric variant that will be sold alongside hybrid versions.
Minimalism and technology in the cabin




The interior of the redesigned ES is as technologically advanced and concise as possible:
- Digital instrument panel at 12.3 inches
- Touchscreen multimedia display at 14 inches
- Optional additional screen for the front passenger,
- Compact gear selector instead of the classic lever,
- Touch-sensitive shortcut buttons and analog volume knob.
For the first time, Lexus used interior lighting in the doors, and the trim is finished with 3D printing that mimics the texture of bamboo. One of the options is a panoramic glass sunroof with a blackout function.
Rear passengers get massage seats, a separate climate control unit, and a rich comfort package.

The latest platform TNGA GA-K with increased body rigidity and Rear multi-link suspension improves handling and comfort. There is also a steering rear axle, which turns the wheels by up to 4 degrees.




Hybrids and electric cars: what’s under the hood
Hybrid versions:
- 2.0L (194 hp) – front-wheel drive only, not available in the U.S.
- 2.5L (244 hp) – ES 350h versions with FWD or AWD,
- Run: from 7.8 to 9.4 seconds to 100 km/h
Electric versions:
- ES 350e (FWD, 221 hp) – Acceleration to 100 km/h in 8.9 seconds, range up to 685 km (CLTC), ~483 km estimated for the US
- ES 500e (AWD, 338 hp) – acceleration in 5.9 seconds, range up to 610 km (CLTC)
The two versions support two-motor architecture, making them not only comfortable but also dynamic. The models range in weight from 1,785 to 2,285 lbs.


When to expect on sale
Despite its world premiere, Lexus ES 2026 won’t go on sale until mid-2026. It won’t replace the flagship LS, but will be a standalone model in the brand’s expanded lineup, offering a premium class with advanced technology and eco-friendly powertrains.
