Ford CEO Jim Farley revealed the mysterious Mustang

The Ford Mustang reached a major milestone this year. The iconic American muscle car turned 60 as it entered its seventh generation for the 2024 model year, and Ford is celebrating everything Mustang-related with a series of events and nice bonuses for owners. Perhaps we’ll see a new version of the car next year, as CEO Jim Farley recently wrote on X/Twitter «more news».

Farley shared an image of a Mustang hiding under a green blanket, but you can’t make out any details on it other than the familiar shape of the car. The comments on the post are filled with speculation, with some speculating that an electrified Mustang will appear, while others are hoping for a Boss 302 or a similar modification.

Farley’s comments on the post are wide-ranging.

Interestingly, the image Farley shared was originally titled «RTR Fun 03b», signifying the involvement of Vaughn Gittin Jr.’s RTR Vehicles. His Mustang upgrade packages offer power, aerodynamic and styling improvements for the seventh-generation car, while the top-spec Spec 2 variant makes significant suspension changes, turning the ‘Stang into a cornering monster. If the new mystery car has even an approximation of the improvements offered by the RTR packages, it’s going to be a serious machine.

One thing’s for sure: Ford has no shortage of historic names from which to choose. It’s built some of the most famous cars in the U.S. auto market over the Mustang’s long history, and that’s not to mention electrification, which would be an exciting development for the Mustang (not counting the Mach-E, of course).

At least it’s not the only one.

We’ll have to wait to see what Farley is talking about, but in the meantime, Mustang fans and owners have plenty to talk about. Ford recently rolled out an update for the 2024 model that gave the digital instrument cluster a retro-inspired look with an over-the-air update. The automaker is also set to open a new Mustang Experience Center at Charlotte Motor Speedway in 2025, which will feature a trackside ride, a merchandise store, and an event center capable of hosting weddings and other gatherings.

In addition, Ford recently opened the call for entries for the most hardcore Mustang in history — GTD. In addition to a starting price of $325,000, its supercharged 5.2-liter V8 makes more than 800 horsepower, and active body aerodynamics provide a level of handling never before seen in a street-legal Mustang.
