Chery may start producing cars in Russia

Chairman of the Board of Directors of Chery Automobiles Rus, Sun Luquan, has confirmed that Chery is going to launch car production in Russia.
It has been officially announced that Chery cars will be produced, as they are the best-selling cars. The top manager notes that local production will make sense if sales volumes are above 50,000 cars a year. For the first half of this year, sales totaled 46,970 units (up 321%), which may be enough to launch production. The company is considering several sites and should decide on a choice by the end of the year.

The Chery Tiggo 7 Pro was launched last year at Volkswagen’s former plant in Kaluga, but the first batch amounted to just 120 units. Based on the results of this work, the company may decide to continue production at the plant or use another site.
