2024 Mercedes-AMG GT revealed ahead of Monterey Car Week

Last week, Mercedes-Benz announced that it would debut the 2024 Mercedes-AMG GT, as well as a special version of the SL, during Monterey Car Week. The automaker took to social media this week, teasing its subscribers with a short video of the new coupe that showed the presence of a V8 engine and all-wheel drive.
The carmaker also took to social media, teasing its followers with a short video of the new coupe that showed the presence of a V8 engine and all-wheel drive.
The video, posted on Mercedes-AMG’s Instagram account, only whets the appetite for the new GT. It shows the top of the coupe with its long hood. The sound of the V8 breaks the silence, accelerating and shifting as the car drives down a deserted two-lane mountain road. Video clips of the road are interspersed with a badge showing the V8 Biturbo and 4matic on the car’s fender and AMG, presumably on the rear. The video concludes with the announcement that the all-new Mercedes-AMG GT will «roar» on Aug. 19, and ends with the slogan «So AMG».

Although Mercedes-AMG is moving to smaller displacement engines with fewer cylinders, abandoning the V8 in the C63 and E63 sedans, it continues to use a bi-turbo V8 engine for the GT. It’s unclear at this point whether Mercedes-Benz will include a four-cylinder engine in the GT lineup, as it did with the SL43. That engine uses a hybrid circuit to deliver 381 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque.”

As far as the SL is concerned, it will join the AMG GT on stage in Monterey, California. Although production of the large 2+2 convertible will begin in 2021, Mercedes-Benz has said it will introduce a special version of the SL this year, possibly as part of Manufaktur’s customization service. That way, it could showcase the program and the extensive options available to buyers of the top-of-the-line cabriolet.

The current AMG GT debuted for the 2015 model year with a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine. It’s been the official safety car in Formula One ever since, only recently sharing duties with the Aston Martin Vantage.
