The Gemini app has updated the query bar on Android and iOS

Google has begun rolling out a redesigned query bar in the mobile version of Gemini. The update follows a redesign of the service’s web version and is already available in the latest beta version of the Google App for Android, as well as the iPhone and iPad apps.
What’s changed in the Gemini interface
The new query string has changed its shape: instead of an oval field, it is now a rectangle with rounded corners. Even before the text is entered, the field is now more visually prominent. There is now a horizontal row of actions below it:
- Camera
- Gallery
- Files
- Google Drive
Instead of an extensive “plus” menu, a compact pop-up window with access to only the main data sources is now used.

New features: Research, Canvas and Video
Below the query bar there are now buttons in the form of “chips” – quick actions:
- Research – generation of detailed analytical answers
- Canvas – creating documents and code
- Video – video generation based on Veo 2
Clicking on the three-dot icon displays a brief description of each function. Once pressed, the selected chip remains active – making it easier to use the same function repeatedly.

Model Selection Update
Google has changed its AI model selection interface. Deep Research and Veo 2 have been removed from the list – they are now presented as separate features rather than full models. Available options:
- 2.0 Flash – fast universal answers
- 2.5 Flash (preview) – fast next-generation logic
- 2.5 Pro (preview) – complex calculations, code, reasoning
- Personalization (preview) – adapting to the user’s search history
The updated panel also retains the voice input and Live mode Gemini buttons.
Design unification and new menus on iOS
On the iPhone and iPad, Google is using a redesign to transition to iOS system menus. This makes the controls more native for Apple device users.
The overall style of the query bar is now closer to the web version of Gemini – more visual elements, less minimalism, but higher functionality. Google is making the interface more transparent to emphasize the model’s features and make it easier to access them.
