One UI 8 leaked build: don’t expect a revolution

Although the One UI 7 update based on Android 15 has just started arriving on Samsung devices, the vendor is already actively working on the next version of the shell – One UI 8. The first leaks confirm that the upcoming update will be evolutionary rather than revolutionary: the look will remain almost unchanged, with developers focusing on tweaking and polishing features from the previous version.
One UI 8 will be released alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7
It has been revealed that the next-generation flagship foldable smartphones – the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 – will come with One UI 8 pre-installed. This confirms that the new firmware version is already in the final stages of development and is likely to be released for other compatible models before the end of this year.
A new version of the firmware is already in the final stages of development and is likely to be released for other compatible models before the end of this year.
What’s more, internal test builds are already available on some devices, and one of them – running on the Galaxy Z Fold 6 – has turned up in the hands of insiders. Thanks to this, we’ve gotten an early glimpse of the upcoming update.
The interface hasn’t changed much – it’s more of a One UI 7.1
The screenshots and accompanying report show that visually One UI 8 is almost identical to its predecessor. And that’s not surprising: the One UI 7 has already brought massive design changes, and Samsung is unlikely to make major adjustments to the look so soon. Most likely, we’re talking about a logical continuation, which could be tentatively called One UI 7.1.
Some minor tweaks are still there, though. For example, the Gallery and Files apps have slightly more streamlined menus and interface, making it easier to interact with them in a more intuitive way.
Now Brief will reach older models
One of the most interesting things about the leak was the introduction of the Now Brief feature, which was previously exclusive to the Galaxy S25 series. Even Galaxy S24 owners didn’t get this option with the release of One UI 7. Now, however, it’s spotted in the One UI 7 firmware number F956BXXU2CYD7 for the Galaxy Z Fold 6, indicating its possible wider rollout with the One UI 8 release.

One UI 8 will be a refinement without missing version 7.1
Since the One UI 7 release was delayed, Samsung apparently has no time left to release an interim version 7.1. Instead, the company is going straight to One UI 8, which will take on the role of that intermediate stage: improving stability, optimizing the system, and bringing Android 16.
It’s too early to talk about the full list of innovations — more details are likely to await us as we get closer to release. But it’s already clear: One UI 8 will focus not on external glitz, but on internal refinement, honing the user experience to perfection.
