Sechenov University registered Oncopro – software for early diagnosis of cancer diseases

Sechenov University has received an official registration certificate for its own development — software called «Oncopro» designed to assess the risk of malignant tumors. This system has become the first software product of the university to be recognized in Russia as a medical product, paving the way for its use in practical healthcare.

The «Oncopro» project was created through the efforts of the Institute of Personalized Oncology of Sechenov University in collaboration with the V. Ivannikov Institute of System Programming of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The development was carried out within the framework of the federal program for the formation and development of the NCMU «Digital Biodesign and Personalized Healthcare».

The software analyzes blood counts based on 12 oncomarkers and, using mathematical modeling algorithms,&#nbsp;estimates the likelihood of six forms of cancer: lung, kidney, breast, prostate, ovarian, and colorectal cancer. In recent years, the system has undergone clinical testing at the basic clinical center of Sechenov University, where its diagnostic accuracy was confirmed.

This is the result of several years of work by a large team of doctors, biologists, and mathematicians. We tried to make the product reliable, simple, easy to learn. Special thanks for the support of — the Department of Clinical Trials of Drugs and Medical Devices of the University, which helped to pass the complicated trajectory of registration of the software product as a medical product.

The leader of the development team, Nikolai Alexandrovich Agafonov, a researcher at the Institute of Personalized Oncology at Sechenov University.

We give the physician a tool to determine the likelihood of having cancer. In this way, the doctor will be able to decide in time to make in-depth screening decisions for at-risk patients, ultimately helping to detect more cases of cancer at an early stage

The project leader is Marina Igorevna Sekacheva, MD, director of the Institute of Personalized Oncology at Sechenov University.

Developers are already looking at ways to expand functionality &#8212 in the future «Oncopro» will be able to analyze risks for other types of oncology as well, thereby strengthening the system’s potential as a tool for prevention and early detection of diseases.
