Link to Windows app gets remote PC locking feature

Microsoft has added the ability to remotely lock your PC to the Link to Windows Android app. The new feature is available in version 1.25071.165 and above.

Remote locking improves PC security

With an update to the Link to Windows app, Android smartphone users now have the ability to manually lock a connected Windows PC from a distance. This can be useful if the user forgets to lock the device before leaving or is away from home for a while.

Windows has previously offered automatic PC locking when the smartphone is away from the computer. That option uses the Bluetooth connection as a virtual “security perimeter”: if the user goes beyond it, the system locks the device. The new feature extends this mechanism by allowing you to activate the lock manually – without having to be near the computer.

The app’s interface is now more user-friendly

With the update, Microsoft has also restructured the Link to Windows interface, according to Windows Central. The main features are now grouped more logically and navigation is easier.

In the past, interaction between Android and Windows was mostly one-way: the Link to Phone app on PCs allowed you to share files, photos, and messages. And Link to Windows on Android was just a supporting component. Now Microsoft is making the mobile part of the link more functional.
