OpenAI’s search product is very similar to startup Perplexity’s solution – a proprietary AI search interface with quotes, images and text. Perplexity, now valued at around $1 billion, was founded by three engineers – Aravind Srinivas, who worked at OpenAI, Dennis Yarats, who worked at Meta**, and Johnny Ho, formerly of Quora.
